Yemen Media Guide for Development Center (YMGD) is a Yemeni non-governmental, non-profit civil society organization, founded on January 16, 2013, under Activity Permit No. (1003/2013) issued by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor in accordance with Associations Law No. (1) of 2001. The idea of establishing was adopted by a group of journalists working in the “Family and Development” magazine, who experienced the social impacts of poverty and daily violations against women, children, and vulnerable groups, as well as the absence of care structures. They recognized the power of media and civil society in influencing behavioral changes among individuals, groups, and institutions, expanding community participation, activating the role of local authorities and good governance, strengthening peacebuilding efforts, social protection, and human rights. The center launched its 2013-2014 plan with support from independent media and the national private sector, focusing on monitoring and reporting, offering psychological support and legal consultations, building the capacity of female journalists and youth, and running awareness and advocacy campaigns for the rights of women, children, and youth. The center succeeded in raising the voices of vulnerable groups and generating public support for them.

After the outbreak of war in March 2015 and the destruction, looting, and armed group control of the center’s headquarter in Taiz, the team faced a number of challenges but managed to continue its operations through Al-Turbah office, which had been opened since the center’s establishment to target remote areas. The focus then shifted to improving community access to multi-sectoral emergency protection services, promoting social peace, and transforming the challenges faced into sustainable development opportunities. With 12 years of experience, the center has launched its 2024-2026 strategic plan, which promises more sustainable development
